Salazar, Diego José [Joseph] de
(d Seville, 25 June 1709). Spanish composer. After being a choirboy at Seville Cathedral he became maestro de capilla at the nearby village of Estepa. He was recalled to Seville on 26 November 1685 to succeed Alonso Xuárez (probably his teacher) as cathedral maestro de capilla. He wrote a requiem for Carlos II’s wife María Luisa de Orleáns (d 12 February 1689) that was used for many later important funerals. He died of the plague, aged about 50.
